Big News for Triangle Chocolate

Toblerone not Swiss enough for Switzerland

G’day,

There’s some seismic news in the world of triangle chocolate.

Toblerone, everybody’s favourite Swiss Chocolate bar, has been deemed not Swiss enough by the Swiss.

Toblerone’s American parent company has decided to move a large portion of its production to Slovakia to cut costs.

Under Switzerland’s “Swissness Act,” products are required to meet certain criteria in order to use Swiss symbols (like the Swiss cross on your Swiss Army Knife) or if they want to label themselves “made in Switzerland”.

For food products specifically, 80% of raw materials and 100% of milk and dairy must come from Switzerland to get that coveted Swiss stamp of approval.

And with this new move to eastern Europe, well, Toblerone just ain’t cutting it as a truly Swiss product anymore.

So now poor old Toblerone is going to have change their iconic packaging— changing the “Made in Switzerland” to the much less sexy “Established in Switzerland” and completely removing the image of the Matterhorn (whose peaks are said to have inspired the iconic shape of the chocolate).

Like we said: it’s a seismic news story in the world of triangle chocolate.
